The sharp population decline since the 1950s is essentially due to the mechanization of agriculture and the associated loss of jobs.
economy
The economic life of Muñotello is largely agrarian - in the past, grain, vines, etc. were planted for self-sufficiency ; Vegetables came from the house gardens. Cattle breeding (previously mainly sheep and goats, today mostly cattle) was also operated. Since the 1960s, rural tourism (turismo rural) has also played an increasingly important role in the economic life of the municipality.
history
Little is known about the earlier history of Muñotello, but the Celtic (perhaps Vettonic ) high fortress Castro de Ulaca in the neighboring town of Solosancho proves an early settlement of the region. Roman and Visigoth and Arabic-Moorish evidence is largely missing. In the 11th and 12th centuries, the area was largely recaptured ( reconquista ) and repopulated ( repoblación ) by the Christians without a fight . In a document from the year 1250, a large community called Valle Amblés is mentioned, to which the name but not mentioned and perhaps not yet existing place Muñotello belonged.
Attractions
- The simple church of Santiago Apóstol dates from the 16th century; its apse is made of stone , whereas the walls of the nave are made of larger field stones . The interior of the church is spanned by a representative artesonado beam ceiling with tie rods , which is typical of the region . The apse, separated by a flying buttress, is polygonal; the altarpiece shows the apostle James the Elder. Ä. as a riding " moor killer " ( matamoros ) . Perhaps during the construction of the church, the south side received an open vestibule ( portico ) .
- A court column ( rollo or picota ) from the 17th century rises on the square in front of the church .
