Amavida is a place and a central Spanish municipality ( municipio ) with 132 inhabitants (as of January 1 2019) in the center of the province of Ávila in the Autonomous Community of Castile and Leon . The hamlet of Pascual Muñoz, with around 50 inhabitants, also belongs to the municipality .

location

The place Amavida is located in the far west of the Valle de Amblés on the north side of the Iberian Scheidegebirge at an altitude of approx. 1170 m above sea level. d. M. The city of Avila is a good 39 km (driving distance) to the northeast. The Río Adaja , a tributary of the Duero , flows past the place about 2 km south. The climate in winter is cool, in summer it is quite warm despite the altitude; the low amounts of precipitation (approx. 455 mm / year) fall - with the exception of the almost rainless summer months - distributed over the whole year.

In the first millennium BC The municipality belonged to the settlement area of ​​the Celtic Vettons . Roman , Visigoth and even Arabic-Moorish traces are missing. In the 11th and 12th centuries, the Valle de Amblés was probably recaptured by the Christians more or less without a fight ( reconquista ) and then repopulated ( repoblación ) .

  • The small parish church of San Juan Bautista dates from the 15th / 16th centuries. Century; in the 18th century it was extended and upgraded on the south side by a vestibule ( portico ) with annex rooms. The nave is spanned by an artesonado wooden ceiling typical of the area ; a carved altarpiece (retablo) in the style of Churriguerism decorates the apse .

  • The ruins of the Augustinian monastery ( Monasterio de Nuestra Señora del Risco ), which are about eight kilometers northwest of the village, are embedded in an impressive rocky landscape and can be explored on a hike ( 40 ° 35 ′ 30 ″  N , 5 ° 5 ′ 35 ″  W ) . The monastery, which was closed in 1835, once housed one of the most important panel paintings of the late Middle Ages - a Madonna with the Infant Jesus of Petrus Christ on her knee (today in the Museo del Prado in Madrid).
  • On the road to neighboring Muñotello is the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Izquierdo .
