Attractions

La Adrada - Castillo
  • The most important building in the city is the castle (castillo) , which was probably built around 1400 from rubble stones and is comparatively well preserved or restored . In addition to the actual castle wall, this has an outer wall ring with a crenellated wreath ; the area in between is called " Zwinger ". The ruins of a Gothic church and a reconstructed palace building can still be seen in the actual courtyard .
  • The restored town square (plaza mayor) or (plaza de la villa) is a little gem; the town hall (ayuntamiento) with a small bell gable (espadaña) , a fountain (fuente) and other representative buildings are located here.
  • The unadorned Iglesia de San Salvador dates back to the 16th century and is built in the Herrera style ; it has a side bell tower (campanar) . The nave is vaulted; the late baroque altarpiece in the apse in the style of Churriguerism was added in the 18th century.
  • The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Yedra possibly originated as early as the 13th century; however, it was fundamentally redesigned in the 16th century. In the connection of quarry stones and bricks , clear Mudejar influences can be seen inside and outside . A small masterpiece is the dome made of bricks, underpinned by crossing belt arches .
Surroundings
  • Two single arch bridges ( Puente Mosquea and Puente Mocha ) span the Río Tiétar; another (Puente Chico) crosses the Cercá brook . Some call them " Roman bridges "; however, it is more likely that it was built in the Middle Ages or in the early modern period.
