Moghègno is a village and district of the municipality of Maggia in the Maggia district in the Vallemaggia district of the Swiss canton of Ticino . Until April 4, 2004 Moghègno was an independent municipality.

In 2003, before the municipal merger, 376 inhabitants lived in the municipality on an area of ​​6.96 km².

geography

Moghègno is 317  m above sea level. M. in the Valle Maggia north-west of Locarno between Pizzo Peloso in the south-south-west and Madom da Sgióf in the north-east. The village is located on the right bank of the Maggia River , which formerly marked the municipal boundary to the main town Maggia, which is directly opposite. The border with Aurigeno, however, led along the Ri di Dentro .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1335 as Mogeno . You can still find many houses from the 17th and 18th centuries in the town center. Other evidence of rural culture are also of interest, such as the large fountains carved directly into the rock , the mills and the large wash house.

Moghègno is connected to the main road 407 by a side street that spans the Maggia . A branch road at the bridge leads to Aurigeno. Another, smaller road leads along the Maggia through the forest to Lodano .
