Somèo (in the Lombard dialect [zmei] ) is a village in the Ticino municipality of Maggia , Switzerland . Until 2004 it formed an independent political municipality .
geography
The village lies at an altitude of 366 m above sea level. M. The place is on the left side of the Maggia river , about 25 km north of Locarno . The former municipality of Someo included the Riveo fraction.
history
Someo was first documented as Summade in 807. The linguistic origin of the name is unknown.
1355 Someo is attested as a neighborhood ( vicinia ) . It has been an independent parish since 1591, previously it was a church according to Cevio . The construction of the Maggia Valley Railway in 1907 encouraged the mining of paragneiss , especially in Riveo.
In 2003, before the municipal merger, 366 inhabitants lived on a municipality area of 32.73 hectares. Today Someo is part of the municipality of Maggia , which was formed on April 4, 2004 .

- Parish church of Santi Placido and Eustachio from the 13th century, first mentioned in 1365, with a (repeatedly renovated) portal from 1536
- Ossuary
- Prayer chapel of San Giovanni Battista (1850) with frescoes by Giacomo Antonio Pedrazzi (1851), namely Cristo Morto and Addolorata, and the statues of San Luca and San Giuliano
- Gesola prayer chapel in the Terra di dentro district, with frescoes (17th – 19th centuries), including Madonna di Re, Madonna and Child, saints and evangelists by Giacomo Andrea Pedrazzi
- Oratory Madonna delle Grazie in the district of Riveo (1703), renovated in 1729 and 1877; Stucco altar (1729) with the wooden statue Madonna col Bambino , the painting San Giuseppe e l'angelo and the votive offering Madonna del Soccorso (1722)
- Other structures
Even today there are many houses from the 17th and 18th centuries in the town center. Witnesses of the former rural culture are, for example, the large well carved directly into the rock, the mills and the wash house.
