The whey borne ponds Stölpchen form a nature reserve (NSG) in the district of Meißen in Saxony . The 160.75  ha area with NSG no. D 76 is located south of Stölpchen , a district of the Thiendorf municipality .

The nature reserve was established by resolution no. 69-11 / 83 of the Dresden District Assembly of June 23, 1983 (Commun. State organs no. 3/83). With the ordinance of the District Office of Meißen of January 27, 2016, a legal adjustment and a new delimitation of the area was made.

The ponds in the area are the Stegteich, the Mittelteich Stölpchen, the Fuchsteich, the Seeteich, the Steinigtteich, the Muttonich, the Mittelteich Weixande, the Ponytail pond and the horse pond.

The nature reserve is part of the FFH area no. 4648-301 "Whey borne ponds Stölpchen" and the European bird sanctuary no. 4648-452 "Ponds near Zschorna". The following natural habitat types of community importance are located in the area , the preservation and restoration of a favorable conservation status being sought:

  • 3130 Oligo- to mesotrophic still waters
  • 3150 eutrophic still waters
  • 4010 Moist heaths
  • 6510 lowland hay meadows
  • 7140 Transitional and swinging lawn bogs
  • 9190 oak forests on sandy plains
  • 91E0 Alder, ash and softwood alluvial forests (priority)

Another protective purpose is the preservation and restoration of a favorable conservation status for all animal and plant species of community interest and the preservation of the occurrence of endangered and endangered plant species in Saxony.
