The Gohrischheide and Elbniederterrasse Zeithain form a nature reserve (NSG) in the district of Meißen in Saxony . The 2,846.99 ha area with the NSG no. D 95 is located about 5 kilometers north of the Saxon community of Zeithain . In terms of area, the nature reserve belongs to the Zeithain municipality, the Wülknitz municipality and Nauwalde , a district of the city of Gröditz .

The nature reserve was established by an ordinance issued by the Meißen district office on January 11, 2011 (SächsGVBl. P. 45).

Purple Mullein ( Verbascum phoeniceum )

A 454.4 hectare special protection zone is designated in the nature reserve, which is intended for succession and development. The area is part of the FFH area No. 4545-304 “Gohrischheide and Elbniederterrasse Zeithain” and the European bird sanctuary No. 4545-451 “Gohrischheide”. The habitats of Community importance according to Annex I of the Habitats Directive "Inland dunes with open grass areas" and "Dry heaths" can be found in the area. Furthermore, there are residual occurrences of the purple mullein ( Verbascum phoeniceum ), which is to be secured in its continued existence as part of the dry and warm semi-open country.

In 2014, marked visitor paths were laid out in some selected peripheral areas of the nature reserve, a 6 m high wooden observation tower ( ) was built, thereby creating restricted tourist access.
