description
The nature reserve includes the last two Saxon Elbe islands , which are still present after the Elbe was expanded in the 19th century. Because of their rarity and peculiarity in the Upper Elbe area and in terms of sustainable biotope and species protection, they are to be preserved and developed.
The protection purpose consists in particular in the preservation of the islands in their relief and the existing floodplain soils , as well as the highest possible proportion of unpaved bank areas and shallow water zones. Furthermore, the protection and preservation of the existing, area-specific habitat types according to the Habitats Directive is aimed at. This applies in detail to alder and ash forests, softwood alluvial forests, oak-elm-ash alluvial forests, moist tall herbaceous meadows and annual pioneer vegetation on muddy river banks. The area's own animal populations include beavers , otters , bat species, asp , white-fin gudgeon , salmon , hermit , green damsel and Asian damsel .
Furthermore, the reproduction habitats and the resting, resting and sleeping areas are protected from animal species threatened with extinction and susceptible to disturbance. This includes the following animal species: sea frog , gray heron , goosander , pygmy hawk , osprey , honey buzzard , sandpiper , black woodpecker , kingfisher and rook .
