Monika Medek

Monika Medek (born June 19, 1979 in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera and concert singer with a soprano voice .

Life

Monika Medek first studied singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna , and then successfully completed her opera studies at the Vienna Conservatory under the direction of Lucia Meschwitz and Michael Pinkerton. She also studied with Grace Bumbry , Kurt Equiluz , Michael Pabst , Margit Fussi and Helga Meyer-Wagner.

In November 2015 Monika Medek was nominated for the international Woman of the Year Award in the “Art and Culture” category.

Artistic activity

On the opera stage she made her debut in 2003 as First Lady in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Magic Flute at the Stadttheater Baden , followed by Pamina in the Magic Flute , Gertrud (mother) in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel , Luigia in Viva la Mamma by Gaetano Donizetti , and Lady Billows in Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten , the Giulietta in Jacques Offenbach's Hoffmanns stories as well as the Wellgunde in Richard Wagner's Rheingold and the Senta in The Flying Dutchman . She has made guest appearances as a freelance singer in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, China and Thailand. She opened the Lower Austrian State Exhibition as a soloist . She has made guest appearances at the Théâtre Municipal Esch, the Parktheater Augsburg , the Theater Wolfsburg , the Theater im Pfalzbau and the Stadttheater Wels .

In the concert field, she was soprano soloist with various orchestras in the 8th Symphony ("Symphony of the Thousand") by Gustav Mahler (Soprano II, "Una Poenitentium"), the Messa da Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi , the German Requiem by Johannes Brahms , the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré , the Te Deum by Georges Bizet , the Stabat Mater by Antonín Dvořák , and interpreter of both soprano parts of the hymn of praise by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy .

Further stations were her debut in the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein in 2013, where she performed selected arias and duets by Mozart with the Wiener Schubert Symphony Orchestra, and in May 2014 when she performed the soprano part from the German Requiem by Johannes Brahms sang her debut in the Great Hall of the Wiener Konzerthaus , followed by the world premiere of the symphony Gebetsfahnen / Prayer Flags by Vijay Upadhyaya in December 2014 and the Symphony No. 8 by Gustav Mahler in April 2015. In this context, both prayer flags and the 8. Symphony released on CD.

As a very active song interpreter, she has performed many of the great cycles such as Gustav Mahler - Des Knaben Wunderhorn , Richard Strauss - Four Last Songs , Johannes Brahms - Zigeunerlieder and Robert Schumann - Frauenliebe und -leben , right up to contemporary song compositions.

On September 20, 2016, she sang the soprano solo from Prayer Flags by Vijay Upadhyaya at the Beijing Concert Hall .
