The Moorgürtel nature reserve is located in Hamburg in the Süderelb marsch in the Altes Land between Neugraben-Fischbek and Neu Wulmstorf . It is almost congruent with the EU bird sanctuary of the same name .
In 2001 the 737 hectare area was placed under protection; it includes the previous nature reserves Nincoper Moor and Francoper Moor . The nature reserve Moore bei Buxtehude directly connects to its southwestern border in Lower Saxony .
The nature reserve is home to the plant species cuckoo carnation , the broad-leaved orchid , the rattlespot , the nail bush and the king fern .
The native animals here include the white stork , lapwing , stonechat and red-backed shrike. The best-known representative is probably the corncrake : Because it breeds in the moor belt, construction projects have already been stopped or changed (such as the construction of the A26 motorway or a new development area in Neugraben-Fischbek).
