Morgan De Sanctis (* 26. March 1977 in Guardiagrele , province of Chieti ) is a former Italian football - goalkeeper .
Career
In the club
De Sanctis started his professional career in 1994 in the Abruzzo at Pescara Calcio in Serie B . In 1997 he moved to Serie A to record champions Juventus Turin , but remained there only a substitute goalkeeper. In two years he only came on three missions and moved to Udinese Calcio . There, too, he was initially unable to assert himself and mostly remained on the bench for two years. It was not until 2001 that he became a regular goalkeeper.
In the summer of 2007 De Sanctis moved to the Spanish first division club Sevilla FC . There he mostly had to line up behind the first goalkeeper Andrés Palop . Sevilla awarded him for the 2008/09 season to the Turkish club Galatasaray Istanbul , with whom he was Turkish Supercup winner . In June 2009 he signed a three-year contract with SSC Napoli .
For the 2013/14 season , De Sanctis moved to AS Roma for a transfer fee of 500,000 euros , where he signed a contract until June 30, 2015. Still a regular player in the first two seasons, he was ousted by Wojciech Szczęsny in the 2015/16 season .
For the 2016/17 season , De Sanctis moved to the French Ligue 1 for AS Monaco .
In the national team
De Sanctis made 15 junior internationals for Italy between 1994 and 2000. In 2000 he became European champion with the Italian U-21 team under coach Marco Tardelli in Slovakia .
National coach Marcello Lippi appointed him for the first time in 2005 in the Italian senior team , for which he made his debut as a substitute in the goalless friendly against Iceland on March 30, 2005. For the 2006 World Cup , however, Lippi nominated Marco Amelia as the third goalkeeper in the squad. By Roberto Donadoni , who replaced the resigned after the World Cup title Lippi, De Sanctis was the third goalkeeper in the national team for the 2008 European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland called. He was also the third goalkeeper at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa , but like at the European Championships he was not used. It was only over a year later that Lippi's successor Cesare Prandelli brought him back to the national team for the friendly against Spain on August 10, 2011 , in which De Sanctis was not used. At the EM 2012 he was part of the Italian squad, but remained without a commitment. De Sanctis completed the last of his six international matches in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in a 3-1 home win against Denmark . On March 27, 2013, he resigned from the Italian national team after being in the squad for the last time in the international match against Malta the day before .
