The Municipio Vallegrande (also: Valle Grande ) (Spanish for " large valley ") is a district in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of Vallegrande is one of five municipalities in the province of Vallegrande and comprises the central areas of the province. It borders in the north on the municipality Trigal , in the northwest on the municipality Moro Moro and on the department Cochabamba , in the west on the municipality Pucará , in the southwest on the department Chuquisaca , in the southeast on the province Cordillera , in the east on the municipality Postrer Valle , and to the northeast to the province of Florida .

The municipality extends between about 18 ° 17 'and 19 ° 10' south latitude and 63 ° 32 'and 64 ° 18' west longitude, its expansion from west to east is up to 65 kilometers and from north to south up to 90 kilometers .

The municipality comprises 109 municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the city of Vallegrande with 10,158 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the northern part of the district.

The municipality of Vallegrande is located in the transition area between the Andean mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental in the north and the Cordillera Central in the southwest, and the Bolivian lowlands in the east. The climate in the protected valleys is mild and balanced all year round, not as hot and humid as in the nearby lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is 18 ° C (see Vallegrande climate diagram) and fluctuates only slightly between 15 ° C in July and 20 ° C from November to January. The annual precipitation is almost 700 mm, with a weak dry season from May to September with monthly precipitation below 25 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 100 to 130 mm monthly precipitation.

The life expectancy of newborns was 68.0 years, and infant mortality had fallen from 6.0 percent (1992) to 4.6 percent in 2001.

99.6 percent of the population speak Spanish , 2.4 percent speak Quechua , and 0.4 percent speak Aymara . (2001)

63.7 percent of the population have no access to electricity , 66.2 percent live without sanitary facilities (2001) .

90.4 percent of 4,030 households have a radio, 42.6 percent a television, 30.2 percent a bicycle, 5.1 percent a motorcycle, 10.0 percent a car, 14.8 percent a refrigerator, and 5.5 percent Percent a phone. (2001)
