MusicaItalia per l'Etiopia was a supergroup made up of numerous well-known Italian musicians who recorded a cover version of Volare as a benefit song for Ethiopia in 1985 .
background
After similar projects had already started in the UK with Band Aid ( Do They Know It's Christmas? ) And in the USA with USA for Africa ( We Are the World ), the Italian music manager and theater producer David Zard initiated a similar initiative . There were 22 mostly very well-known Italian musicians. Ethiopia, which benefited from the proceeds of this project, was formerly part of the Italian colony of Italian East Africa . However, despite the large number of stars and the popularity of the covered song , the project was not granted any particular success.
