NGC 2865 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E3 in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 108 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on January 23, 1835 by the astronomer John Herschel with a 48 cm telescope.
