NGC 2851 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 223 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 2811 and NGC 2848 are located in the same area of the sky .
The Type Ia supernova SN 1991K was observed here.
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on February 27, 1886 .
