NGC 6794 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sab in the constellation Sagittarius on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 269 million light years from the Milky Way and approximately 135,000 light years in diameter .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on August 24, 1834 .
