NGC 6782 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Peacock in the southern sky . Inside it has a ring with a high rate of star formation . The galaxy is roughly 172 million light years from the Milky Way , about 125,000 light years in diameter, and is a member of the IC 4845 group .
The object was discovered on July 12, 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
