NGC 7496 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Crane in the southern sky . It is an estimated 73 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on September 5, 1834 by the astronomer John Herschel with his 18.7 inch reflector telescope and was later included in his New General Catalog by Johan Dreyer .
