The 1984/85 season was the third edition of the highest Finnish women's ice hockey league , the Naisten SM-sarja . The league was carried out by the Finnish ice hockey association Suomen Jääkiekkoliitto . The championship title was won for the first time by the Ilves Tampere women's team .

mode

The 13 teams played in three groups with different numbers of participants each a single round with a return game or a 1.5-fold round (group south). There were 2 points for a win and one for a draw. A total of four teams qualified for the final tournament, with the two best-placed teams in the southern group being seeded. The two best teams in the east and north groups played cross-over in the first and second leg to participate in the final tournament.
