The 1990/91 season was the ninth edition of the highest Finnish women's ice hockey league , the Naisten SM-sarja . The league was carried out by the Finnish ice hockey association Suomen Jääkiekkoliitto . The championship title was secured for the sixth time in the club's history and for the second time in a row Ilves Tampere .

In the main round, the seven participating teams played a single round with a return game, i.e. a total of 12 games per team. There were 2 points for a win and one for a draw. The first four teams in the main round qualified for the play-off semi-finals; the last team took part in the league relegation.
