The 1995/96 season was the 14th edition of the highest Finnish women's ice hockey league , the Naisten SM-sarja . The league was carried out by the Finnish ice hockey association Suomen Jääkiekkoliitto . The Shakers Kerava secured the championship title for the third time in a row . Both participants in the relegation, Kiekko-Karhut and TPS , managed to get into the league.

First, a preliminary round with a home and away leg was played with the eight participating teams. This was followed by the main round of the six best teams as a single round. There were 2 points for a win and one for a draw.

The first four teams in the main round qualified for the play-off semi-finals.
