The parish village of Nankendorf is part of the town of Waischenfeld in Upper Franconia .

geography

Nankendorf is located about three kilometers north-northeast of Waischenfeld and is at an altitude of 358 meters. The place is in Franconian Switzerland , about 25 kilometers south of Bayreuth and is traversed by the Wiesent .

history

The place name (formerly "Anckenhoff", possibly containing the Latin word agnus (sheep)), could indicate the earlier sheep farming.

The church in Nankendorf was mentioned in various documents in 850. The parish appeared in writings around the year 987. In 1748, the Waischenfeld master builder Wenzel Schwesner replaced the former fortified church with the new construction of the Catholic parish church of St. Jakob and Martin .

As a result of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century , the place became an independent rural community to which the two hamlets of Aalkorb and Kaupersberg also belonged. In the course of the municipal territorial reform in Bavaria in the 1970s, most of the community Nankendorf was incorporated into Waischendorf, only Kaupersberg, located about one and a half kilometers north of Nankendorf, came to Plankenfels . In 1987 Nankendorf had 345 inhabitants.
