The Pardo Miguel district is located in the Rioja province of the San Martín region in the central north of Peru . The district was established on December 16, 1984. It has an area of ​​1166 km². In the 2017 census there were 16,797 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 9602, in 2007 it was 17,088. The district administration is located in the 975  m high town of Naranjos with 5913 inhabitants (as of 2017). Naranjos is located almost 70 km west-northwest of the regional capital Moyobamba . The national road 5N from Moyobamba to Bagua runs through the district.

Much of the population is made up of migrants from the Andes and the coast. In the area u. a. Pineapple, coffee, rice, cocoa, corn and bananas are grown.

Geographical location

The Pardo Miguel district is located in the far northwest of the Rioja province. The district lies in a basin landscape between the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the west and the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera in the east. The rivers Río Delta, Río Huasta and Río Mayo form the northeast and eastern district boundaries.

The Pardo Miguel district borders in the northeast with the district Moyobamba ( province Moyobamba ), in the southeast with the district Awajún , in the south with the districts Granada and Olleros (both in the province Chachapoyas ) and in the west with the districts Chisquilla , Corosha and Yambrasbamba ( Bongará Province ).
