Nate Gerwig (born June 27, 1983 ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Gerwig played as a professional in Europe, especially for German clubs. In addition to a hapless engagement for the first division club Paderborn Baskets, for which he only played four games due to a serious knee injury, Gerwig mainly played for clubs in the second division ProA . Since December 2012 he has been in the squad of the ProB league team BSW Sixers from Sandersdorf-Brehna .

Career

Growing up in Pittsburgh , Gerwig went to study from Pennsylvania to Ohio , where he played at Kent State University for the college team Golden Flashes in the NCAA . In its third year had Gerwig injury because of shoulder and knee injuries fit, he that for medical reasons "redshirted" ( German  intermittent war) and was allowed to play in his fifth year of college for another season.

After completing his studies, Gerwig went to Finland as a professional in 2006 , where he played in Porvoo for the Tarmo club in the Korisliiga. After a year he returned to his home country and played for the newly founded " franchise " Mad Ants from Fort Wayne in the NBA Development League . Subsequently, the German second division team Chemnitz Niners signed him in 2008, who had previously only remained in the class by relinquishing another team. With the Niners, Gerwig played relatively successfully with almost 16 points and 8.5 rebounds on average in the ProA 2008/09 and at the end of the season they occupied a midfield position with balanced points accounts. For the following season he was signed by the first division team Paderborn Baskets, who had previously reached the play-offs for the German championship for the first time , and Gerwig played again with DeAndre Haynes , who had been his teammate almost all of his college days. The financially troubled Paderborn had given up almost their entire squad and Gerwig had to sit out after four games in the basketball league 2009/10 due to cartilage damage to his knee, so that he could no longer be used afterwards. At the end of the season, the club rose from the bottom of the table from the basketball Bundesliga .

After the repeated knee injury, Gerwig stayed out for almost two years and made his comeback in the ProA 2011/12 for the Saar-Palatinate Braves from Homburg , who ended his trial contract after a few games. Just six weeks later, the league competitor BasCats from Cuxhaven took hold and signed Gerwig until the end of the season. For the following season Gerwig was signed by the Slovak champions from Prievidza . After a moderate start to the season, the defending champion ended his contract with Gerwig early in December. Then came Gerwig again to Germany and was founded by the BSW Sixers from the Pro B committed.

Others

The main rivals of Kent State University's Golden Flashes are the Zips of the neighboring University of Akron . Around the same time that Gerwig and Haynes (2001 and 2002 to 2006 respectively) were active for the Golden Flashes, the BBL players Dru Joyce and Romeo Travis were also active for the Zips from 2003 to 2007. While the Zips ranked behind the Golden Flashes during the season of Haynes and Gerwig, who once qualified for the finals, the duo Joyce and Travis were more successful in the BBL than Haynes and Gerwig. They were able to qualify together in the jersey of ratiopharm Ulm in the BBL season 2008/09 for the play-offs for the championship, while Haynes and Gerwig had to relegate one season later at the Paderborn Baskets even as bottom of the table.
