Neaera is a metalcore band from Münster , which was founded in 2003.

Band history
The guitarist Tobias Buck, who was previously active in the Deathgrind formation Malzan , founded a side project in the summer of 2003, which should tend towards hardcore with Swedish and power metal influences. The line-up initially consisted of Sebastian Heldt, Benny Hilleke, Benjamin Donath and Tobias Buck. Shortly before the first appearance, the new band name The Ninth Gate was born . Soon after, Stefan Keller joined as second guitarist to the band by its deep Hardcore and Death Metal rooted Riffideen brought to their later sound.
After working out the material, the band went to the Docma-Klang-Studio in Osnabrück in February 2004 to record a demo over two weekends . On April 2, 2004 they got a recording deal from Metal Blade Records . As part of this, the band name was re-chosen - Neaera after the name of an ancient Greek hetaera .
Under this name it went to Stage One Studio in November 2004 to record the first real album with producer Andy Classen . The Rising Tide of Oblivion was released on March 21, 2005. A European tour followed in autumn with Heaven Shall Burn , As I Lay Dying , Evergreen Terrace , Agents of Man and End of Days as well as several shows in Germany , Austria , Switzerland and the Netherlands , Denmark and Estonia . Another tour with Caliban , Fear My Thoughts , Destiny, and Narcissus ended the year.
On April 7, 2006 Neaera released their second work Let the Tempest Come with the help of producer Jacob Hansen . After the album was released, further European tours followed. In early 2007 Neaera went on the Road To Devastation tour with Quo Vadis , Fear My Thoughts and Kataklysm .
On February 21, 2007 Neaera announced on their Myspace page that they would make a video recording of the concert on May 19, 2007 in Münster. This video recording was released as a bonus DVD with the limited edition of their third album. On August 2nd, 2007 Neaera played at the Wacken Open Air . A few weeks later, on August 24, 2007, the new album Armamentarium was released . An armamentarium is an armory or describes a doctor's collection of instruments. The first headliner tour through Germany and several neighboring countries followed in autumn 2007 with Deadlock as support . In spring 2008 the band was on tour with As I Lay Dying and played at the Summerbreeze Festival 2008.
On May 27, 2009, the fourth studio album Omnicide - Creation Unleashed was released.
On July 13, 2010, the band announced on their website that the recordings for their fifth album were completed. It was released on October 22, 2010 and is called Forging the Eclipse .
The drums were again recorded in Andy Classen's Stage One Studio, the remaining instruments and vocals were recorded in the Rape of Harmonies Studio under the direction of Alexander Dietz, who is a guitarist in the band Heaven Shall Burn , who is friends with Neaera . The mixing and mastering took over the Danish producer Tue Madsen. Following the album's release, Neaera will tour Western Europe and Scandinavia with Caliban, All That Remains , Bleed from Within and Soilwork .
Neaera signed with Metal Blade Records again in 2012 . There the sixth studio album Ours Is the Storm was released on March 1, 2013 in Europe and on March 5 in the United States.
On September 3, 2015, the band announced their breakup via Facebook. They want to end Neaera before they are “just a shadow of themselves”. Concrete reasons were not given, but it was emphasized that the band did not split up in an argument. For December 2015 final concert dates in Münster, Leipzig and Stuttgart have been announced, at which Neaera will play their last appearances together with Caliban, Vitja , Any Given Day and Walking Dead on Broadway under the motto "Darkness Over X-Mas".
In January 2018 concerts at the Impericon Festivals 2018 in Leipzig and Oberhausen were announced.
On December 12, 2019, Neaera released the single Torchbearer . The associated album Neaera was released on February 28, 2020 and reached number eight in the German album charts.
