Need for Speed is an open world from the genre of racing games , developed by Ghost Games and distributed by Electronic Arts (EA). It was released on November 3, 2015 (USA release) and November 5, 2015 (Europe) for the console platforms PlayStation 4 and Xbox One . A version for Windows PCs followed on March 15th and 17th respectively. Need for Speed 2015 is the twenty-second part of the Need-for-Speed racing game series, but represents a new start, with which EA said it wanted to pay particular attention to the wishes of the players.
Gameplay
In terms of content, the reboot ties in with Need for Speed: World and its auto-tuning options, although these options already existed and were more pronounced in Need for Speed: Underground 2 . The races are characterized by an urban environment and take place in an open game world. Players can take five different paths:
- Speed: "Classic" race at full throttle
- Style: spectacular drift races
- Crew: team mode
- Screwdriver: Individual mode for optical and performance tuning
- Outlaw: Street race against the police.
Each of these modes or driving styles is represented in the game by a so-called "icon": Magnus Walker (speed), Ken Block (style), Akira Nakai (screwdriver), Risky Devil (crew) and Shinichi Morohoshi (outlaw). The aim is to impress these icons with victories and spectacular driving styles in the fictional game world Ventura Bay, to build up one's own reputation among the drivers and to earn in-game money for tuning. A special feature of the game is that a permanent online connection must be maintained during the game.
However, Electronic Arts does without so-called chargeable DLCs and microtransactions. This means that there is new content to the game, e.g. B. other car models or tuning options, will only be given via free patches.
vehicles
The player can drive the following vehicles in Need for Speed , whereby the maximum number of vehicles used at the same time is limited to five vehicles, since March 2016 to ten.

criticism
There was applause for the almost photorealistic image quality of the driving scenes and the attitude of Electronic Arts with regard to paid DLCs and microtransactions. The online compulsion during the game, the exclusively nocturnal racing environment and the lack of some features that were already standard in the predecessors received negative reviews. In the meantime, the online constraint has been removed from the game and replaced by three modes: a so-called “solo lobby”, which allows players to play alone with NPCs , an “all drive lobby” and an “online lobby”, which can only be accessed via an online function.
The lack of extensive tuning options and the lack of a cockpit view were particularly criticized by the players - contrary to the announcements and the claims of the developer company from earlier versions. One point of criticism from earlier parts of the racing game series was softened, namely the artificial intelligence , which ensured that computer opponents were actually able to make up surprisingly large residues that were unreachable ("rubber band AI").
