Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed (also Need for Speed: Shift 2 and Shift 2: Unleashed ) is a racing simulation and the 17th part of the multi-award-winning Need for Speed series. It was developed by Slightly Mad Studios and published by Electronic Arts in March 2011.

Shift 2 is the successor to Need for Speed: Shift , released in 2009, and has a lot in common with this title. The player takes on the role of a racing driver who tries to rise to the top in a system of racing leagues. For this purpose, he has 145 licensed vehicles from 37 manufacturers at his disposal. Innovations compared to its predecessor are the larger number of vehicles and routes, various effects when driving at high speed, the helmet camera and the connection to the Autolog system developed for multiplayer games .

The reception of the title was positive. Testers praised the new game content and the improved multiplayer functions.

Gameplay

The game principle has essentially been adopted from its predecessor. In career mode, which does not have a background story, the aim of the game is to become one of the best racing drivers in various racing leagues. The racing leagues consist of several races, some of which are held on real tracks such as Spa , and some on fictitious courses.

Shift 2 contains numerous perspectives from which the player can control his vehicle. The follower perspective is active by default. However, the player can also choose a bumper perspective, a hood perspective and the cockpit perspective. The helmet camera, which is used in the cockpit perspective, has been added. It simulates the movement of the head, caused by centrifugal forces when cornering or collisions with other race participants.
