The game uses the Frostbite 3 engine from Digital Illusions CE .

Reviews

Need for Speed Payback received mixed and average reviews.

IGN's Luke Reilly praised Electronic Arts for repairing problems with its predecessor, Need for Speed , but criticized the “scripted” story, the lack of police chases while driving, and unrealistic vehicle damage. PC World criticized the game for the severely limited adaptability of cars, game mechanics, lack of cockpit view and many other problems.
