Neukirchen was mentioned in 1317 as "Newenkirchin". A knight's court or knight's seat is mentioned in 1465, in 1519 a forework of the Hirschfeld manor and from 1696 a manor . This was owned by the von Born family in the 14th century, who sold it to the von Brand family, who were followed by the von Maltitz family . At the beginning of the 17th century it was owned by Wolf von Morgenthal, from 1670 by the von Pantzschmann family for a decade and then by Hans Otto von Ponikau , who was followed by the von Mörner family. After it came to the von Schönberg family in 1759 , the estate belonged to the Court Marshal von Erdmannsdorff in the 18th century , later to the von Zedtwitz family and around 1860 to Ludwig Friedrich Ferdinand von Zedtwitz. The manor house was built around 1800. The oldest part of the local church was probably built around 1450.

Until 1856 Neukirchen belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon District Office of Meißen . In 1856 the place was affiliated to the Wilsdruff court office and in 1875 to the Meißen administration . On July 1, 1950, the neighboring town of Steinbach was incorporated . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the municipality of Neukirchen came to the Freiberg district in the Chemnitz district in 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Freiberg district of Saxony from 1990 .

On March 1, 1994, the communities of Bieberstein , Dittmannsdorf , Neukirchen and Reinsberg were merged to form the new community of Reinsberg. Neukirchen and Steinbach have since formed one of five localities in the Reinsberg community. Since 2008 the place belongs to the district of central Saxony.
