Neustädt is an agricultural part of the municipality of Gerstungen in the Wartburg district with around 300 inhabitants and is located in the Werra Valley, on the Hessian-Thuringian border.

history

Neustädt was first mentioned on December 29, 1316 in a document from Eisenach's Nikolaikloster. In the list of witnesses noted there, a Rudegerus de Nuvestete (Rüdiger von Neustädt) was listed. Further local names were given in Neustedt in 1514, Neustat in 1533, Neustedt in 1551, Neustadt in 1554, ... for the first time in 1623 in today's Neustädt spelling.

According to field names and a matching legend, the original place was about 200 meters away in the hallway "Am alten Keller", the original place name was lost. Neustädt belonged to the Gerstungen office .

Neustädt was hit by witch hunts in 1658 . The young Margarethe Müller fled from arrest, was picked up, extradited and imprisoned in Hesse. The outcome of the witch trial is unknown.

Neustädt has been part of the Gerstungen community since March 8, 1994.
