Nicholas Hammond (born May 15, 1950 in Washington, DC ) is an American actor and screenwriter.

life and career

Nicholas Hammond was born as the son of the American Colonel Thomas W. Hammond (1908-1970) and the British actress Eileen Bennett (* 1920). Because of his father's job, the family moved frequently and lived temporarily in Europe. Thanks to his mother, he came to acting early on and made his film debut in 1963 with a supporting role in Lord of the Flies , the film adaptation of William Golding 's novel of the same name . Two years later he appeared next to Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer in the extremely popular musical film My Songs - My Dreams : He played Friedrich, the eldest son of the Trapp family.

In adulthood, Hammond continued his acting career with an appearance in the Broadway -Stück Conduct Unbecoming and supporting roles in the feature films Skyjacked and Superdad - Superdad continued. He also took on guest roles in popular television series such as The Waltons , Petrocelli , Magnum , Dallas and Mord ist Her Hobby in the 1970s and 1980s . Hammond's first marriage to Laura Soli ended in divorce in 1984. Shortly afterwards, after filming in Australia, he was so fascinated by this country that he moved there entirely in the late 1980s. In the meantime he has also taken on the Australian citizenship. On Australian television he works as an actor and occasionally as a screenwriter and director. In 2019 he took part in an important Hollywood production for the first time after a long period, when he played the television director Sam Wanamaker in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) .

Hammond has been in a relationship with actress Robyn Nevin , former director of the Sydney Theater Company , since the early 1990s .
