Career

Carlsson began playing football in 1985 at the Stockholm club IF Brommapojkarna , which is known for its youth work , but which he had to leave a short time later after moving to Delsbo . After continuing to play at the local Delsbo IF , he later returned to the IF Brommapojkarna youth division. Here he went through the other youth teams and moved up to the first team in 1998. With the team he missed 1999 due to the introduction of the single-track Superettan relegation at the second highest level of play. He only had with the team the following year in the promotion round against Gefle IFmissed the promotion, he returned in 2001 with her in the second division. As a regular player, he contributed to the club's relegation in 29 games in the 2002 second division season . After another half series in Sweden, he had piqued the interest of the Danish club Aarhus GF .

In the summer of 2003 Carlsson left his home country and joined the Danish Super League . At the side of Peter Graulund , Morten Petersen , Jeffrey Aubynn and Søren Pedersen , he was a regular for much of the season and helped the club, which had been in a relegation battle - during the season, Carlsson's compatriot Sören Åkeby replaced the Dane Poul Hansen as coach - to keep the league. Under Åkeby, who had strengthened the team with the Swedes Martin Ulander and Tobias Grahn , he was also largely a regular in the first half of the 2004/05 season.

Nevertheless, Carlsson decided half a year before his contract expired to return to Sweden and joined the first division relegated AIK . At the side of team captain Daniel Tjernström , Mats Rubarth , Kristian Haynes and Daniel Örlund , he rose again directly with the team trained by Rikard Norling , with seven goals this season he was instrumental in the success. He was also a regular player in the first division and helped the promoted player to runner-up behind IF Elfsborg in the 2006 season . After he was part of the regular formation at the beginning of the following season, the club decided not to extend its contract, which was running out at the end of the year, in the summer and relied on Nils-Eric Johansson and Daniel Arnefjord as the central defender duo. So it was only used sporadically until the end of the season.

After long speculation about his new club, Carlsson signed a three-year contract with the reigning champions IFK Göteborg at the end of October . In April 2008, shortly after the start of the season, he injured his shoulder and was out for a long time. After his return he was a substitute player in the 2009 season and made six appearances as a substitute. In July he was injured again. After a cruciate ligament tear , he failed again for a longer period. It was only in his third year that he was able to train permanently with the team and established himself as a regular alongside Adam Johansson , Stefan Selakovic and Tobias Hysén in the second half of the 2010 season . Nevertheless, he left the club after his contract expired and returned to IF Brommapojkarna in December 2010. In the second division he ended his active career after two seasons in the Superettan at the end of 2012.
