Nicklas "Nick" Grossmann (* 22. January 1985 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish ice hockey player , who again since 2017 in Sodertalje SK in the HockeyAllsvenskan on the position of the defense plays. Before that, Grossmann spent eleven seasons in North America, where he played 623 games for the Dallas Stars , Philadelphia Flyers , Arizona Coyotes and Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League . With the Swedish national team he was runner-up in 2011 .
Career
Grossmann played at Gnesta IK during his junior years and later at Södertälje SK until 2005 , where he also made the jump into the first team from the Elitserien .
After he was selected in the second round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft in 56th place by the Dallas Stars from the National Hockey League , the defender moved to North America in the summer of 2005 . At first, Grossmann was only used by the Iowa Stars in the American Hockey League (AHL). The Swede made his debut in the NHL team of the Dallas Stars at the end of the 2006/07 season . He brought it to eight NHL games before the start of the play-offs , in which he had to make way for the regulars again. From the 2007/08 season he was part of the squad of the NHL team - also due to injuries to teammates. From the 2008/09 season he played the following three and a half game years exclusively in the NHL team.
On February 16, 2012, the Dallas Stars transferred him to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a second-round vote in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and a third-round vote in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft . After three years in Philadelphia, he and the contract rights to Chris Pronger were given to the Arizona Coyotes , who in return sent Sam Gagner and a success-based draft option to the Flyers. After his contract expired at the end of the 2015/16 season , he moved to the Calgary Flames in October 2016 after a successful trial session . There he was to be sent to the Flames' farm team in the AHL in November , after which, however, an agreement was reached to terminate his contract.
Grossmann then returned to his home country and joined Örebro HK at the end of November 2016 . He left this after a season in the Svenska Hockeyligan and he returned to his home club in Södertälje, which is based in the HockeyAllsvenskan . There he was appointed team captain before the 2017/18 season .
International
Grossmann represented his home country Sweden for the first time at the U20 World Junior Championship in 2005 , where he was the team captain , but only finished sixth. With 37 penalty minutes in six tournament games, he was the most punished player in the competition.
In the senior category, he completed the 2009 and 2011 World Championships . He won the bronze medal in 2009 and the silver medal in 2011. He played a total of 14 games in both years and prepared one goal.
