The Lower Saxony Cup 2016/17 was the 61st edition of the Lower Saxony Association Cup for men in amateur football. The final took place on May 25, 2017 at the Bremen bridge in Osnabrück .

Both finalists qualified for the first main round of the DFB Cup 2017/18 through their participation in the finals , as Lower Saxony is one of the three state associations with the most men's teams in play and was therefore allowed to send two teams to the club cup. If a finalist qualifies for the DFB-Pokal through another competition, a playoff will take place between the losing semi-finalists.

Game mode

The first attempt was to play a winner in 90 minutes. Should it be a draw after that, in contrast to other cup competitions, there was a direct penalty shoot-out without thirty minutes of extra time. In the penalty shootout, a winner was then determined according to the known pattern.

Participating teams

For the Lower Saxony Cup 2016/17 , all Lower Saxony teams in the 3rd league 2016/17 and the Regionalliga Nord 2016/17 , all teams in the Oberliga Niedersachsen 2016/17 and the district cup winners of the 2015/16 season qualified . Exceptions are second teams of higher class clubs. The following teams are taking part in the Lower Saxony Cup this year (the league level in which the club is playing is given in brackets):

League level in brackets: III = 3rd league • IV = regional league • V = upper league • VI = regional league • VII = district league

1After the game between KSV Vahdet Salzgitter and 1. FC Wunstorf had been canceled by KSV due to "unplayability of the place", the game was initially rejected by the responsible NFV game committee 5-0 for 1 due to an "improper game cancellation" . FC Wunstorf scored, so that it reached the next round (the round of 16) without a fight. In retrospect, the NFV announced that the game would now be played, but on the home pitch of 1. FC Wunstorf, so that Salzgitter's home rights as a district division no longer apply.
