Nikolai Mikhailovich Kharlamov ( Russian Николай Михайлович Харламов ; born December 6, jul. / 19th December  1905 greg. In Zhukovka , Oryol Governorate , Russian Empire ; †  9. April 1983 in Moscow , Russian Soviet republic , Soviet Union ) was a Soviet-Russian Admiral .

Life

Nikolai Mikhailovich Kharlamov was born in Zhukovka in the Oryol Governorate (now in Zhukovka district in the Bryansk Oblast ). In 1922, Kharlamov joined the Soviet Navy . In 1925 he joined the WKP, which later became the CPSU . In 1941 he graduated from the Naval War Academy for Commanders "KJ Voroshilov" and the Academy of the General Staff of the "Red Workers and Peasants Army" .

In the 1920s he served in the Black Sea Fleet . From February 1938 to April 1941 he was Chief of Staff of the Black Sea Fleet. In 1940 he was promoted to rear admiral.

Second World War

After the start of the Great Patriotic War , Kharlamov was appointed Soviet military attaché in London on July 20, 1941 . He stayed in this position until October 1944 and was involved in the opening of the Second Front . On November 20, 1944, he was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Soviet Navy.

post war period

From 1946 to June 1950 he worked in various functions with the General Staff of the Soviet Navy. From 1950 to 1954 he commanded the 8th fleet within the Baltic fleet, which was divided into two from 1946 to 1955 . From November 1956 to May 1959 he commanded the entire Baltic fleet .

In May 1959 he was appointed advisor to the Chinese People's Liberation Army. In 1971 he was released from active service and retired. From 1954 to 1962 he was People's Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in the 4th and 5th legislative periods.

He died on April 9, 1983 and was buried in the Kunzewoer Cemetery in Moscow.

Honors

The Admiral Kharlamov , a Russian destroyer of Udaloy class in the Northern Fleet , was approved by the Russian Seekriegsflotte named after him.
