Noemi is a Hebrew female given name that is modified many times in different languages.

In the Tanakh , Naomi is Ruth's mother-in-law , who became King David's great-grandmother through her second marriage . Naomi gave herself the name Mara after her return from Moab ( Ruth 1.20  EU ).

Naomi is also a Japanese female given name, made up of nao 'honesty' and mi 'beauty'.

The similar sounding names Naima or Naim are of Arabic origin and mean "calm, calm".

etymology

The Hebrew personal name נָעֳמִי nå'åmî , German 'Noomi' is the short form of a nominal sentence name in which the theophore element and subject have failed. What is left is the ratingנֹעַם no'am , German 'loveliness' . Therefore the name translated means "(God) is loveliness". The attribute “loveliness” is originally related to the deity who made the birth of Naomi possible and not to Naomi herself. The names can be compared in the Old Testamentאֲבִינֹעַם 'ǎvîno'am "Father is loveliness",אֲחִינֹעַם 'ǎḥîno'am "Brother is loveliness", as well as the short formsנַעֲמָה na'ǎmāh ,נַעַם na'am andַנַעֲמָן na'ǎmān (all three "(God) is loveliness"). The name N'm'l "God is loveliness" is also used extra-biblically .

The Septuagint gives the name with Νωεμιν Noemin , the Vulgate with Noemi .
