Norbert Leithold (born Norbert Bleisch on June 10, 1957 in Schwerin ) is a German writer and historian . In the 1990s , he made some pornographic films .

Life

Norbert Leithold was born as Norbert Bleisch in Schwerin in 1957. After training as a plasterer , he worked at the theater and began studying history. In the mid- 1980s , he was a historian doing research on the Lebensborn homes in the Third Reich . This activity also formed the basis for his first novel, which was published in 1988 under the title Loss of Control by Hinstorff Verlag and which earned him a nomination for the 1989 aspekte literature prize. Previously, with Lord garbage already another novel emerged which, however, only after the reunion was also published in Hinstorff. For his third work, the short story Fourth Germany from Suhrkamp Verlag , Norbert Bleisch was awarded the Alfred Döblin Prize , donated by Günter Grass , in 1991 .

In 1990 Norbert Bleisch designed a video performance for the opening of the first film festival in Schwerin . Later he began to deal with the topics of sexuality and pornography : In 1991 he wrote his “pornographic manifesto” to Beate Uhse . At the Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt he presented a story entitled Baldzoweit , which he himself describes as a "pornographic video clip in words". In the following years he worked as a film producer and director on several films under the pseudonym Sebastian Bleisch . Among the actors were also young people who were paid for their participation, which is why the prosecutor opened an investigation. Bleisch was arrested in September 1996 and sentenced in 1997 to a prison sentence of 2 years and 6 months by a jury . His arrest warrant was then overturned and he only served one year in the open prison of the Bützow correctional facility . Norbert Bleisch said he was relieved about the judgment, because it ended something that he didn't have the strength to do himself.

At the turn of the millennium, Norbert Bleisch took his wife's surname and has since published as Norbert Leithold . He returned to his work as a historian and until 2005 wrote Friedrich the Great - How He Really Was for the Tauchaer Verlag. The book Friedrich der große Hazardeur - Further errors about Friedrich II. Of Prussia (also Tauchaer Verlag) was published in 2006 and ties in with the previous work, as well as Graf Goertz - The Great Unknown from 2010 (Osburg Verlag). The basis for these works was a collection of private correspondence from Johann Eustach von Görtz , which Leithold discovered and acquired in an antiquarian bookshop . He was in the service of the Weimar court and Frederick the Great between the 18th and 19th centuries . In 2011, the work by Friedrich II of Prussia - A cultural-historical and illustrated panorama from AZ was published in the Other Library . With love letters and secret dispatches: One year later, Leithold came out again as editor and commentator from the correspondence between Count Johann Eustach von Goertz and his wife and Friedrich II of Prussia 1771–1782 (Osburg Verlag) . It was Leithold's last work on this subject to date.

The fourth novel 2040 , published in 2007, received attention , in which Norbert Leithold describes the development of Germany into an Islamic republic. After Godewind Verlag had published a previous edition, the entire novel was published in full on the Internet . According to the author, the novel was supposed to make a contribution to the Islamic Conference of the Federal Minister of the Interior , but was also criticized as an Islamophobic . Others praised Leithold's “precise and straightforward” language, and none of the protagonists was denounced by the work. Their behavior is derived from specific circumstances.

Leithold lives in Ludwigslust.

reception

Norbert Leithold's first novel Loss of Control over the Lebensborn Homes was published not only in the GDR , but also in the Federal Republic and other countries, and it was translated into several languages. The author achieved lasting fame through his works on the political history of the 18th and 19th centuries , in particular Graf Goertz - The Great Unknown (2010) and Friedrich II. Of Prussia - A cultural-historical panorama from AZ (2011). The former was largely received positively, as one was not only entertained by "all sorts of sociable merrymaking" of court life, but also got "insights into Prussia-Germany between the disputes over the Bavarian succession and the wars of liberation". However, the author trusts diplomatic life less than a speculative love story, which is a "shame". The latter was judged to be of particular interest in terms of the monarch's foreign policy and private life . Norbert Leithold was described as a “respectable and elegantly writing author”, who also partially took up theories from Goethe and Anna Amalia - A Forbidden Love .
