Norbert Wagner (General)

Norbert Wagner (born February 3, 1962 ) is a major general in the Army of the German Armed Forces and has been in command of the training command since May 31, 2017 .

Military career

Training and first uses

Norbert Wagner joined the Bundeswehr as an officer candidate in 1981 and completed his basic training with the 144th Panzer Battalion in Stadtallendorf . From 1982 to 1986 he studied at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich Economic and Organizational Sciences and completed the study as a business graduate from. From 1986 to 1992 Wagner was stationed in Neunburg vorm Wald in the 2nd Company of the 114th Panzer Battalion, first as platoon leader and finally as company commander . As such, he took over the 4th Company of Panzer Battalion 104 for one year in 1992/1993 and was employed as a youth officer of the 4th Panzer Grenadier Division in Regensburg for one year from 1993 to 1994 . From 1994 to 1996 Wagner took part in the 37th General Staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg .

Service as a staff officer

After completing his general staff training, Wagner was transferred to the II Corps in Ulm as a training staff officer. In 1998 he was employed abroad in the USA , where Wagner completed the American General Staff course in Fort Leavenworth , Kansas , at the Command and General Staff College , after which Wagner was transferred as an operations staff officer to the Army Command in Koblenz .

As a result, Norbert Wagner held various posts in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn from 2001 to 2004 , as "Advisor for the conception of combat support" and "Advisor for the principles of conception" in the command staff of the Army . From 2004 to 2006 he was the commander of the tank battalion 104 in Pfreimd and from 2006 to 2009 department head in the staff of the 1st Panzer Division in Hanover . During his time as battalion commander, he also took part in the KFOR operation in Kosovo in 2004 . From 2009 to 2012, Wagner was again employed in the army command staff as head of department for army development.

Service as a general

On March 22, 2012, Wagner took command of Panzerlehrbrigade 9 in Munster . On this post he was also promoted to brigadier general.

On May 20, 2014 Wagner was given command of the Munster training center by the commander of the training command, Walter Spindler . On May 31, 2017, Wagner took over the leadership of the training command as Spindler's successor, after Defense Minister von der Leyen released him from his duties. He was promoted to major general in September 2017.
