Nostradamus is the 16th studio album by the British heavy metal band Judas Priest . It was released on June 13, 2008 on Sony Music / Epic Records . The content of the double album is a concept album about the prophet Nostradamus from the 16th century.

Emergence

Nostradamus was produced by Glenn Tipton and KK Downing . The latter can also be heard for the last time on a studio album by Judas Priest, since he retired from the band in 2011. In February 2007 the band announced in an interview that a total of 18 tracks had been recorded. The album contains symphonic elements in the form of keyboards - Don Airey took part - and choirs , something the band had not done in this form before, although borrowings from the 1976 classic Sad Wings of Destiny were seen. Mixing began in November 2007.

reception

James Christopher Monger of Allmusic wrote that the album can do it, as because of the cover or the text, almost every Spinal Tap - cliché to meet. The songs are partly hit or flop, with a tendency towards the latter. He awarded 2.5 out of 5 stars. Boris Kaiser wrote in the German music magazine Rock Hard : “In the press release, Halford describes the setting of the story of Nostradamus as an“ affair of the heart ”- and that is exactly what one can at least doubt. You always get the feeling that it was time for a new Priest record, that the band had seen their idea tapes and, because of their reluctance to cut things, decided to simply hammer the Schmonzes completely onto the tape. The basic structure may be right - the decorations destroy everything. ”He awarded six out of ten possible points.

The album reached number 11 on the Billboard 200 and number 5 on the German album charts.
