history
Noswendelroth was created during the clearing period between the 9th and 13th centuries. Noswendel itself is older. Barrows even indicate a settlement before the birth of Christ. Later the Roman road passed Noswendel.
The first written mention of Noswendel is in 1335 as "Noiswie" in the books of the Mettlach Abbey . The name of the place, which means something like "wet meadow", changed via "Nooßwendel" (1649) to its current name.
In the Middle Ages until the French Revolution , Noswendel was part of the Dagstuhl rule .
The place Batschweiler is first mentioned in 1647.
Noswendel belonged to the end of the First World War the district Merzig on which part was the Prussian government presidium Trier. This district was assigned to the Saar area under the League of Nations administration in 1920 according to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty - with the exception of the Hochwald communities (districts of Wadern, Losheim and Weiskirchen), including Noswendel, which remained with the Trier regional council under the name " Restkreis Merzig ". The district administration of the "remaining district" was in Wadern . After the Second World War , France decreed that the “remaining district” belonged to the newly formed Saarland, which was under French influence .
On January 1, 1957, Saarland and with it Noswendel again became part of the German state. The economic connection to the Federal Republic did not take place until July 6, 1959. As part of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland , the previously independent municipality of Noswendel was dissolved on January 1, 1974 and assigned to the municipality of Wadern, which in 1978 was again elevated to a town has been.
