Nurn is a part of the municipality of the Upper Franconian market Steinwiesen in the district of Kronach in Bavaria .

geography

The parish village of Nurn lies around 16 kilometers northeast of the district town of Kronach in the Franconian Forest Nature Park on a ridge at around 540 meters above sea level along a basin-like hollow. The traffic development takes place through the district road KC 16 , which connects Nurn with the main town Steinwiesen, furthermore with Kronach, as well as in the opposite north direction with Tschirn .

history

The place name means to the rock, Felseck. A “Nurnburg” was mentioned in 1317, and in 1333 a “Norn” was the property of the Bamberg bishop. In 1348 the name "Nueren" (Nürn) is mentioned. The place was first mentioned in 1349.

In 1618 Nurn had 22 houses. In the course of the Thirty Years War , many troops moved through the place. Nurn, which belonged to the bishopric of Bamberg , passed through the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss in 1803, together with the remaining areas of the bishopric, into the possession of the Electorate of Bavaria .

In 1862 the rural community of Nurn was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Teuschnitz . It consisted of three places, the then Kirchdorf Nurn and the two solitudes Ehrenbach granulator, 2.0 kilometers away, and Teichbach, 0.5 kilometers away, and belonged to the district court Nordhalben . In 1871 the church village had 380 inhabitants. The Catholic parish was in Steinwiesen, 4.0 kilometers away, and the Catholic denominational school was in town. In 1900 the 403 hectare rural parish had 381 residents, of whom 367 were Catholic, and 64 were residential buildings. The main town, in which Teichenbach was now incorporated, had 375 inhabitants.

In 1925, 400 people lived in 73 residential buildings in Nurn, all but one of whom were Catholic. The responsible Protestant parish was in Unterrodach . The Ehrenbachsschneidmühle district was uninhabited. In 1931 the Teuschnitz district office was dissolved and the municipality of Nurn became part of the Kronach district office .

1950 had only 593 residents and 84 residential buildings. In 1961 540 people lived in 110 residential buildings in the main town. The Ehrenbach grinder was inhabited again. In 1970 Nurn had 635 inhabitants and the Ehrenbach cutting mill was flooded when the Ködeltalsperre was built. In 1987 the parish village had 616 inhabitants and 151 residential buildings with 186 apartments.

As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , the municipality of Nurn was incorporated into Steinwiesen on May 1, 1978. In 1982 a multi-purpose house was inaugurated for the local clubs.

Catholic Church of St. Michael

St. Michael

In the middle of the 17th century a small chapel was built with the Archangel Michael as patron saint. In 1806 the community expanded the chapel into a village church. From 1923 a clergyman was permanently in the village.

On New Year's Eve 1954, a fire destroyed the old wooden church in the center of the village. On May 19, 1955, the foundation stone for a new church was laid, about 150 meters west of the old church. The basis for the new building were unrealized plans from 1938. On May 6, 1956, the consecration of the three bells with a total weight of 1068 kilograms took place. On July 22, 1956, the Archbishop of Bamberg, Josef Schneider , consecrated the church. In 1988 the church tower was completely demolished and rebuilt due to structural damage. On the left side of the chancel there are seated figures of the four evangelists who were saved from the pulpit of the old church.
