controversy

Munich Oktoberfest hosts were annoyed in the Bild newspaper, the host Christian Schottenhamel called the series damaging to reputation. “Even if it is supposed to be a fictional representation, this negative representation is bad. [...] Our guests will think: It is the same today. "

Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU), Munich economics officer and Wiesn boss, criticized the Bild newspaper: “To turn an Oktoberfest back to a power-obsessed milieu in order to generate an audience is totally wrong. It has nothing to do with reality. ”He wanted to check whether the host war, which is said to have taken place in 1898 and on which the series is based, really existed. Baumgärtner also criticized the location, the Oktoberfest was set up in Prague and large parts of it were shot in Prague.

Peter Inselkammer , the spokesman for the Oktoberfest restaurateurs, met with the filmmakers before filming. "I hoped that my explanations would prevent bad presentations."

Producer Michael Souvignier, on the other hand, tried to dispel the concerns and emphasized that it was a fictional, historical series.
