Orhan Çıkırıkçı (born April 15, 1967 in Kırklareli ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. Through his many years of work for Trabzonspor , he is particularly associated with Trabzonspor . From the fan and club side, he is seen as one of the most important players in club history. He was part of the Turkey squad during the 1996 European Football Championship .

Player career

society

Çıkırıkçı began playing football on the street and then played in the youth teams in various amateur clubs in his hometown of Kırklareli . Here he became aware of the talent hunters of the then second division club Çorluspor and signed him. After a short period of acclimatization, he fought his way to a regular place and played in the TFF 1st Lig .

Over time, the talent hunters of several first division clubs noticed him here. So Çıkırıkçı moved in the summer of 1989 to the first division club Eskişehirspor . Despite his young age, he made the leap into the regular formation and became one of the shooting stars of the season. Since his club missed relegation at the end of the season, several players were allowed to go for a good transfer fee.

Here the traditional Trabzonspor association reacted and secured the services of Çıkırıkçıs. At his new club he also won a regular place straight away and, although he is not a classic goalscorer, was the second most successful goalscorer of his team after Hamdi Aslan (22 goals) with eleven goals this season . The next season (1990/91) Orhan consolidated his position in the team. Trabzonspor finished the season in third place in the table and qualified for participation in the UEFA Cup . The following season they met in the second round of the UEFA Cup on the French representative Olympique Lyon . Trabzonspor were given few chances to advance and Lyon were the clear favorites. In the first leg on October 22, 1991, Trabzonspor surprisingly defeated Lyon 3: 4 away. Çıkırıkçı was unanimously named as one of the match winners. Due to his speed and dribbling strength, he caused great unrest and uncertainty on the left wing position of Lyon's defense. He prepared a goal and shot one himself. The second leg on November 6, 1991 went even better for Trabzonspor. You defeated Lyon by a clear 4: 1 in your own stadium. This triumph and the players involved received a special place in the club's history. Meanwhile, the next round in the UEFA Cup was surprisingly eliminated by Boldklubben in 1903 . The same season they finished the Süper Lig in fourth place and prevailed in the final of the Turkish Football Cup against Bursaspor . This success was Trabzonspor's first national title win in seven years.

In the 1992/93 season he increased his performance again. With 14 league goals he was with Hami Mandıralı the most successful shooter of his team and also made his personal bests. He finished the season with his club in third place in the table. The next season was similarly successful for Çıkırıkçı. In the meantime he had developed in his position to the best player in Turkey and also held this position in the national team. His career began on October 12, 1994 in the qualifying match for the European Football Championship 1996 against the Icelandic national football team . Here he crashed unhappily with Icelandic goalkeeper Birkir Kristinsson and broke his leg. This injury only healed at the end of the season and so he only had a brief assignment on the last matchday.

Although he fought back to his regular place after a short time in the club and in the national team, he did not manage to regain his old form. Until the winter of 2000, he was almost continuously active as a regular player. After a new coach with Sadi Tekelioğlu was hired during the winter break , Çıkırıkçı lost his regular place and came as a supplementary player to sporadic missions.

He spent the 2001/02 season on loan from the second division and the then second club Trabzonspors, Akçaabat Sebatspor , and then ended his career as a professional footballer.

National team

Çıkırıkçı was appointed to the squad of the Turkish U-21 national team for the first time in November 1989 and made his U-21 international debut against the U-21 selection from the USSR on November 14 .

About two years later he made his international debut for the Turkish national team in a friendly against the Bulgarian national team . He quickly fought for a regular place here and was undisputed for three years until his injury on October 12, 1994 in a qualifying match for the European Football Championship in 1996 against the Icelandic national football team . After his injury was cured, he took part in the 1996 European Football Championship with Turkey and played one game. Immediately after the tournament, he came to two appearances with two nominations and was then no longer considered. In total, he played 28 times for Turkey and scored two goals.

Coaching career

After finishing his career, he decided to pursue a coaching career. His first activity was the assistant coaching position at the South Korean club Bucheon SK alongside Tınaz Tırpan .

In December 2003 he took over the assistant coaching job of the newly hired coach Turgay Semercioğlu at Trabzonspor . After his resignation, he assisted all Trabzonspor's head coaches for over two years. In October 2005 he took over after the resignation of Şenol Güneş 'interim for a game the post of head coach. After the subsequent coach Vahid Halilhodžić brought his own assistant coach, Çıkırıkçı separated from his club.

In February he worked with Giray Bulak as his assistant coach at Ankaraspor . Later they both worked together at Manisaspor and Konyaspor .

Most recently he assisted Giray Bulak from February 2012 until the end of the season at the second division club Çaykur Rizespor and separated from this club after his resignation in the summer of 2012. For the 2012/13 season he took over the post of youth coach at the new second division club 1461 Trabzon , the second team Trabzonspors .
