Oskar Bezzel

Oskar Bezzel (born August 9, 1870 in Wald , † March 30, 1941 in Munich ) was a Bavarian officer and historian .

Life

origin

He was the son of the Protestant pastor Ludwig Bezzel and his wife Emma, ​​nee Frauenknecht. His brother was the Protestant theologian Hermann Bezzel .

Military career

After graduating from a humanistic grammar school , Bezzel joined the Bavarian Army as a volunteer in August 1888 . He graduated from the Munich War School , was subsequently promoted to secondary lieutenant in 1890 and rose to major in the 9th Infantry Regiment "Wrede" by 1912 .

At the outbreak of the First World War and the mobilization , Bezzel became the commander of the III. Battalion of the Reserve Infantry Regiment 8 and took part in the fighting on the Western and Eastern Fronts. Promoted to lieutenant colonel in August 1917 , Bezzel was appointed as such on March 5, 1918 as inspector of the field recruiting depots of the 6th Army . In addition to both classes of the Iron Cross , he was awarded the Military Merit Order III for his achievements . Class with swords.
