In 1991 the merger with the Bank für Schiffahrt took place (see section Bank für Schiffahrt (BfS) ). Volksbank Kehdingen branch in Drochtersen

Merger with Volksbank Kehdingen

In 2013 it became known that Ostfriesische Volksbank eG intends to take over Volksbank Kehdingen eG in Drochtersen, around 200 km away in Kehdinger Land on the Lower Elbe. This merger of two distant and regionally active Volksbanks, which is absolutely unusual in the area of cooperative banks, met with criticism from both the members of the banks and the population. The comparatively small Volksbank Kehdingen (total assets 2012: 244 million euros) was heavily involved in shipping finance and got into difficulties due to the crisis in this industry. The Ostfriesische Volksbank eG, which is also heavily involved in shipping finance, but much larger, offered itself to Volksbank Kehdingen eG as a merger partner.

After a merger with the neighboring Volksbank Stade-Cuxhaven was initially favored in the membership of Volksbank Kehdingen eG, a majority in favor of a merger with Ostfriesische Volksbank eG came about at the meeting of representatives on May 7, 2014. With the entry of the merger in the cooperative register, the merger was completed in early July 2014. The eight branches of the former Volksbank Kehdingen eG have since been continued as a branch under the name Volksbank Kehdingen, a branch of Ostfriesische Volksbank eG . A five-year guarantee has been agreed for the branches.
