Otto Friedrich Gruppe (born April 15, 1804 in Danzig ; † January 7, 1876 in Berlin ) was a German philosopher, classical philologist and publicist. Pseudonym Absolutus von Hegelingen .

Life

Otto Friedrich Gruppe was the son of Johann Friedrich Gruppe and his wife Charlotte, b. Rooster. At first it was intended for the merchant class, but later, after attending grammar school in his native Danzig , devoted himself to philosophical, scientific and old German studies in Berlin. He studied philosophy and classical philology at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin . After receiving his doctorate, he delivered art reports as a permanent employee of the Allgemeine Preußische Staatszeitung and in 1835 became editor of the feature pages.

After working in the Ministry of Spiritual Affairs under Johann Albrecht Friedrich von Eichhorn in 1842 and 1843 , he was appointed associate professor in the philosophy faculty of the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin in 1844. He taught logic and general history of philosophy as well as the history of Greek philosophy. Philosophically, the group is close to the empirical-inductive philosophizing of the Anglo-Saxons ( Francis Bacon ), whereas he promised nothing at all from the continental line from Descartes to Hegel , especially from their attempts to think through beliefs and religions in a philosophical-speculative way.

In 1863 he became permanent secretary of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts . He died in January 1876 without making any changes. Theodor Fontane was his successor .
