Pálháza is a town in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county and is currently (2008) the smallest town in Hungary by population.
Geographical location
Pálháza is located in northeast Hungary , 87 kilometers from the Miskolc county seat , in the Hegyköz , a valley in the Semplin Mountains . Neighboring communities are Bózsva 3 km, Filkeháza 2 km, Füzérradvány 2 km and Kishuta 7 km.
Economy and Transport
Perlite is mined in the municipality , a rock that is mainly used in the construction industry. The forest railway, built in 1888, now operates as a forest railway to Rostalló via the castle hotel Kőkapu (former Károlyi hunting castle). The narrow-gauge Füzérkomlós-Nyíregyháza line leading through Pálháza was split in two in 1945 due to the demolition of the Tisza Bridge as part of the German retreat, and the Füzérkomlós-Kenézlő section was dismantled immediately after its closure at the end of 1980.
