Füzérkajata is a municipality in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county .
Geographical location
Füzérkajata is located in northeast Hungary on the border with Slovakia . By road, the village is 92 km from the Miskolc county seat and 40 km from Kosice , the second largest city in Slovakia. The place is in the upper Hegyköz ("intermediate mountains"), which consists of the valley of the Bózsva and several side valleys. The municipal area consists of an elongated, agriculturally used double valley and, towards the border, a multifaceted, wooded mountainous area of volcanic origin, where several valuable springs arise (Rednek-kút, Fövenyes-kút, Garát-kút ...). Neighboring communities are Biste , Filkeháza , Füzér , Füzérkomlós , Füzérradvány , Kolbása , Pusztafalu and Vilyvitány . The nearest towns are Pálháza (town charter since 2005) 6 km away and Sátoraljaújhely 24 km away.
history
The first written mention as Kaytha comes from the year 1270. At the time of the Árpáden the place was a crown property, later it changed hands several times with the castle Füzér. After depopulation during the Turkish era, it belonged to the Radvány estate of Count Károlyi from 1686–1945, who then repopulated several surrounding desolations. In contrast to the Slovak and Ruthenian settlers of the Hegyköz valley, which is today mixed denominationally, Hungarian-speaking serfs of the Reformed faith were settled in Kajata and Pusztafalu. Before 1918 the village was called Kajátha and belonged to Abaúj-Torna County , the capital of which was Kosice . In 1918 the spelling was changed to Kajata, since 1930 the official name has been Füzérkajata. 1920–1938 and 1945–1992, the northern part of Abaúj-Torna County was part of Czechoslovakia . In 1950 Kajata and the Hungarian county area became part of the merged Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county.
Sights and natural treasures
Worth mentioning is the Evangelical Reformed church from 1794 and the largely intact building fabric, mostly farmhouses from the first half of the 20th century. The former church primary school in the village center serves as a day care center for the elderly, the renovated village house was handed over in 2007.
A nature trail between Pusztafalu and Füzérradvány via Kajata marks some geological and natural rarities in the area, including silicified tree stumps that have not yet been preserved and displayed according to their importance.
