The sanguine was laid on January 10, 1944 at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead, northwest England , launched on February 15, 1945 and was put into service by the Royal Navy on May 13, 1945.

The ship was taken over by the Israeli Navy as Rahav in 1958 . The name comes from a biblical monster (רהב) ( Job 26.12  EU ). Decommissioned in 1968, it then served as a spare parts donor for the sister boat Tanin, which is also in Israeli service .
