The Paintner Forest is a former municipality-free area and is now part of the market town of Painten in the Lower Bavarian district of Kelheim .

The area is in the eastern half of the municipality. It is uninhabited and largely forested , only in the south-western area there is a larger settlement enclave with the Rothenbügl district of Paintner .

In 2012 the market town of Painten applied to the government of Lower Bavaria to incorporate the area. After this request was granted, the Paintner Forest with an area of 23.0692 km² was incorporated into the municipal area of Painten on January 1, 2013. This more than doubled the parish area and expanded it to the east.
